1970s
Before the business had a name, Jimmy was already renting bikes from Galway and helping visitors explore the region on two wheels. One of his first ventures was called Árus Tours—a small but spirited operation reflecting his love of Irish culture, language, and music. An enterprising and warm-hearted man, Jimmy took great joy in sharing the west of Ireland with visitors. His passion for hospitality and local storytelling laid the groundwork for what would eventually become a cycling holiday legacy.

1980s
Europa Cycles was established by Siobhán’s uncle, laying the foundation for what would become one of Ireland’s most trusted cycling tour operations. Based in Galway, the business began with a deep connection to the local landscape and a passion for welcoming visitors to the west of Ireland.

1990s
Jimmy carried the vision forward by offering guided cycling tours, quickly building a strong name for cycling holidays in Connemara. His dedication to service and storytelling helped establish the region as a premier destination for cycle tourism.

2000s
Europa Cycles continued to evolve, focusing more on self-guided and personalized experiences. A full-service bike shop was opened in Galway City, setting a new standard for equipment quality and guest support. Jimmy remained at the heart of the business until shortly before his passing in 2010.

2010s
Liam Codd took over and rebranded the business as West Ireland Cycling. Under his leadership, the company expanded its bike fleet, developed new itineraries across the Burren, Aran Islands, Connemara, and Westport, and became a trusted ground partner for several European travel agents. Liam led the business until his passing in 2016.
2013
Green Marble Tours was founded by Wilma Heim, with a heartfelt mission to offer high-quality cycling holidays with a personal touch. Her expert planning, warm hospitality, and deep love of Ireland earned Green Marble a reputation as one of the country’s top cycle tour providers. Guests praised the seamless organisation, well-crafted routes, and welcoming service.

2016
John and Siobhán Kennedy took over West Ireland Cycling, continuing the family tradition with a renewed focus on guest experience, premium equipment, and meaningful connections with Ireland’s landscape and people.
2022
